Senate Poker Bill Introduced
On August 6th, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) introduced S. 1597, the Internet Poker and Games of Skill Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act of 2009. This legislation would license and regulate Internet poker and other games of skill in the United States. With the introduction of this bill in the Senate, we are one step closer to clarifying the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and protecting our rights to play the game we all love. Book Review: “The Conscience of a Libertarian”
Libertarian vice-presidential candidate Wayne Allen Root has written a new book that examines a number of public policy issues facing our nation. In the new book Mr. Root dedicates a chapter – The End of Prohibition – Why Gamblers Will Empower the Citizen Revolution – to the policy failures of the UIGEA and government attempts to limit Internet gaming through misguided attempts at prohibition.
PPA Board Member Rich Muny reviewed this chapter [click here to read]. To learn more about Mr. Root’s newest book, go to amazon.com.

Update On Frozen Poker Monies
PPA continues to stay actively involved in getting the more than $30 million frozen by the Southern District of New York returned to the online poker players from whom it was taken. Just last week we issued an amicus brief in support [click to read] of a payment processor’s effort to get the funds returned via the courts. We remain optimistic that upon a full review of the facts and the law, this money will be returned and there will be a change in the government’s aggressive actions against law-abiding poker players.
