Weekly Update from Rich Muny, VP of Player Relations
Last week, I told you that I was more optimistic regarding the fight for poker rights than I had been up to that point. This week, I’m even more optimistic. Why? Well, the continuing fallout from the Department of Justice’s December statement on the scope of the Wire Act as not applying to online poker shows that it is more likely than ever that either the federal government or individual states will move to authorize online poker in the near future!
If we all keep pushing for our rights at the federal and the state levels, either Congress or individual states will have to take action. After all, if Congress does not act soon, New Jersey will surely act in the near term, with California not far behind. Once that happens, other states will follow. So, let’s be sure to do our part to push both sides to move forward on this important issue. Can I count on your help here?
Take Action
Let’s keep telling lawmakers to support our rights. By doing this, we are telling them that we will never fold in this fight. These grassroots actions are very powerful, as they empower the pro-poker lobbying effort on Capitol Hill, so let’s all be sure to participate:
- Let’s sent a prefilled, editable tweet in support of New Jersey’s proposed legislation (S 1565) to license and regulate online poker within that state to Governor Chris Christie, with Senator Jon Kyl, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor on copy. Simply click HERE. Let’s ensure that Congress sees poker players reaching out to state leaders for support on state bills, while also showing state leaders that poker players are pushing for federal action. By doing this, we will keep showing lawmakers that waiting and delaying are no longer viable options.
- Let’s send Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Senator Mitch McConnell, Senator Jon Kyl, House Speaker John Boehner, and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor prefilled, editable, tweets. Simply click HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.
