As the economy continues its slide, casinos are increasingly going after unpaid gambling debts. And the man now sitting in the Las Vegas office of Lewis and Roca was instrumental in giving casino operators that option. Anthony Cabot authored the legislation in the 1980s allowing for collection. It is part of a long list of achievements for one of the state’s best-known gaming lawyers.
Perhaps better known today for his work on Internet gaming, Cabot has had a hand in other prominent laws affecting Nevada’s largest industry, including one allowing foreign ownership of Las Vegas casinos. That legislation paved the way for Ginji Yasuda to buy the Aladdin in 1986.
Cabot, who has been practicing gaming law for more than 27 years, has specialized in Internet, sweepstakes and contests. Before joining Lewis and Roca, he was chairman of Lionel Sawyer & Collins’ gaming practice.
