S.3616 Bill Introduced

U.S. Senator Introduces Internet Poker Bill, S. 3616

The PPA is pleased to inform its more than 1 million members that U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (NJ-D) has introduced S. 3616, the Internet Skill Game Licensing and Control Act of 2008.

This exceptional piece of legislation will establish licensed Internet poker in the U.S. and provide American consumers with the vast benefits of a clear regulatory system. The bill is the first of its kind to focus primarily on your favorite pastime. S. 3616, is landmark legislation for the poker community and sets the stage for the next Congress and new Administration to enact sound public policy in the area of Internet poker.

Today, the PPA issued a press release in support of the bill. And we are encouraging everyone to send an note to Senator Menendez to thank him for introducing this bill. You can do this by going to the Senator’s "Contact Me " page on his official Senate Website.

Tell the Senator:

  • Thank you for introducing S. 3616, the Internet Skill Game Licensing and Control Act
  • As a poker player and a voter, it is important to me that our government takes steps to regulate Internet poker in the U.S.
  • Regulation will provide necessary safeguards to protect adult consumers, children and problem gamblers. Moreover, significant federal and state revenue can be gained through a U.S. regulated industry.
  • S. 3616 is a positive development and the poker community applauds you for introducing it.

Say Thanks to Sen.Menendez

KY Governor Seeks Online Poker Ban

Kentucky Governor Trying to Block Your Access to Internet Poker – Every U.S. Poker Player Should Voice Their Opinion

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is working overtime to outlaw online poker within his state.
KY Gov. Steve Beshear

If successful, he could ultimately take away YOUR right to play, too! Rather than proposing common sense legislation to license and regulate online poker, Gov. Beshear instead devised a plan to seize the domain names of many online gaming and poker websites, including every U.S. facing poker site! He has taken his prohibition plan to a Kentucky circuit court, hoping a judge will force his protectionist online poker prohibition on the people of Kentucky.

If Gov. Beshear successfully gains ownership of these domain names, this will have dire consequences nationwide for your right to play, as it would provide a road map for every other state to follow!

What Can I Do?

Over 1200 letters have been sent from PPA members in Kentucky already, but the fight has only just begun. Every poker player must speak out as well!

To take a stand, just click the button below to send Beshear your thoughts of this issue.

Just cut-and-paste the letter below, and either use as-is or edit to your liking. It takes only 60 seconds!

Tell KY Gov. Beshear to Fold Now!

[Sample Letter]

Dear Governor Beshear,

I am writing to express my outrage over continuing judicial actions by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to seize domain names of online poker sites, as this has the potential to affect MY right to play as well. Poker is not gambling, nor is it a crime. Poker is a game of skill that was unfairly and improperly included in this action, and I request the immediate removal of the poker-only sites from your list of domains to seize. It is foolhardy to claim that the state of Kentucky has the right to censor content on the World Wide Web. The actions you have initiated present a major assault on the freedom of the Internet and the First Amendment.

Please respond to this letter and let me know if you will exclude poker from your efforts. I will continue to watch your actions on this issue closely. I hope that I, along with my one million Poker Players Alliance members, can count on your support.

Your opinion matters. Your calls and emails matter.

The number of letters and calls from PPA members has already been highlighted by the Governor’s office, but we must not let up the pressure.

PPA Welcomes FreedomWorks to Our Fight for Poker Freedom – Support Their Efforts!
FreedomWorks.org
I want to make you aware of an effort that goes hand in glove with the PPA’s campaign to keep the government from banning online gaming. It’s called “Net Freedom Forever” and it is the project of the group FreedomWorks, a non-partisan, non-profit issue advocacy organization that promotes lower taxes, less government, and more freedom.

FreedomWorks recognizes that government attempts to control the internet are growing and Net Freedom Forever is a new campaign working to publicize these threats to the internet, and to organize citizens in opposition. The immediate call to action for the campaign is to visit the website www.NetFreedomForever.com and sign the group’s petition to urge the Bush Administration to abandon new regulations to ban internet games of skill such as online poker. Petition signatures will be delivered to key Administration officials as well as members of Congress to embolden them to act and defend the internet from sweeping new restrictions.

I encourage you to visit www.NetFreedomForever.com , sign the petition and encourage your friends and others who want to maintain the right to play poker online over the free and open internet to sign as well.
