Anyone know how IA stands if poker is legal? Wondering about the chances of opening a poker room.

I am from Iowa as well, and as far as I know there are no laws against poker in Iowa. Suprisingly and commendably.

Well, thats not actually the case. Iowa law is pretty complex. Generally, poker is illegal in Iowa as playing any game for money is prohibited unless it complies with a list of exceptions. The list of exceptions is whats complex. Home games appear to be excluded so long as there is no rake or any other kind of charge to play. It also appears bars and card rooms can be licensed to allow games of poker, but again only if there is no fee for playing. But dont take my word for it, you can find all the Iowa gambling statutes here: http://www.gambling-law-us.com/State-Laws/Iowa/

Thanks Skallagrim, I read some laws on this site before and I agree. It seems the law, like always, is loose for interpretation. Imagine lawyers doing that. lol
