Skallagrim—

Do you think it is possible for the passage of HR 2267 to allow for an intrastate sports betting site in the state of Nevada (note: I understand no other states (maybe DE) would have any chance at it as I know the Wire Act of 1961 covers this for the other 48 or 49 states)?

Here is a post I made over in the poker section of 2+2, but didn't really get an answer:

“It will be very interesting to see how things shake out and what companies emerge as the US industry leaders for online poker. I really think that Nevada will be an interesting state to watch as they have always been the nations' leaders when it comes to most forms of gambling. I think it is germane as it would seem that HR 2267 might be considered a green light to start things with intrastate gambling:

Here in Nevada there are a couple of small things regarding sports betting that people are unaware of. First off, the Stations Casino Corp. has online sports betting offered to Nevada residents. I believe the daily total that can be wagered in $1000 or less. You have to set up the account in a Stations casino and fund it there as well. Also of note, Leroy's (a sports book that subleases space in various casinos statewide and advertises itself as the largest sports book in Nevada) accepts bets over phone lines. There is some sort of pager or something that the bet has to come from and only works in some radius from the center of Las Vegas that covers Clark County I believe.

Anyway, I think this may give states where sports gambling is legal (i.e. for sure Nevada and maybe Delaware) the ability to set up much larger operations in the examples I gave. The question will be would this put into jeopardy their ability to get a national license at some point because they are associated with online sports gambling. For instance, I don't think that MGM or Caesar's (Harrah's soon to be new operating name) who would stand to be the biggest poker licensees might not risk having an online sports betting intrastate site for Nevadans only. But there will be a market for a lesser name like Leroy's to try and do that since they would probably estimate that their share of the poker market would be very low and it would be more profitable to offer an online sports betting site for Nevadans.

Are there any other Nevada residents or legal experts that have any opinions as to how they think all of this will shake out specifically in the one state that has always been most friendly to gamblers (with regard to B&M casinos anyway).

My guess is that the top 5 US poker sites 5 years from now will all be major casino names MGM-Mirage, Caesar's (Harrah's), Wynn, Foxwoods, Seminole Hard Rock, etc…

Does anyone think casinos with lesser names like South Point, M, Stations Casinos, Coast Casinos might opt to go for an intrastate online sports betting system?”

The PPA has done wonders for poker players. It is a shame that sports gamblers could not create a group that does the same for it members. However, sports gambling has been vilified in American society for almost a century and that is not about to change any time soon that I can see. This is especially true given the power of the professional sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

The hope is for me as a Nevada resident to have access to online sports lines from Nevada casinos some day as well as be able to play poker online. In case no one is familiar here are a couple of links that I do think show a glimmer of hope for at least some expansion of online sports gambling intrastate wise in Nevada:

With Stations Casinos doing what they do online:

http://www.stationcasinos.com/gaming...ts-connection/

And with Leroy's phone betting:

http://www.eog.com/news/full-article.aspx?id=34100

(see paragraph 3 regarding remote betting and phone accounts)

SKALL CAN YOU ANSWER WHY THESE TWO SEPARATE THINGS DONE BY STATIONS AND LEROY'S DO NOT VIOLATE THE WIRE ACT? AND COULD IT BE THAT WHATEVER LOOPHOLES ARE USED TO ALLOW THESE TWO THINGS CAN BE USED TO ALLOW OTHERS TO DO SIMILAR THINGS FOR POKER AND SPORTS BETTING IN NEVADA OR ELSEWHERE?

We have now made some great progress on the legalization and taxation of online gaming.

Congratulations to everyone for your help! I know that many of you had a stance in this decision for poker.

Fellow Maryland Poker Players
Please take the time today to call your local congress man or woman and ask them to support HR 2267. This would repeal the Internet Gaming Act and allow US Banks to conduct normal business with online poker sites. This is a critical time for this legislation and it can't happen without you. Step up to the plate and call today.

This would also be a good time to encourage all your poker playing friends to join the PPA today!

Thanks for your time and efforts. Let's all play!!!

In Virginia there was really only one place we could go to play Poker. A town called Portsmouth. Unfortuentely it looks like the local prosecutor has decided poker is not a 'game of skill' and is going to start closing down the poker halls.

I just received a voice mail on my Google Voice number, presumably from an automated system dialing for the PPA .. Anyone else? Asking me to "check my email on Monday" regarding HR 2267 (it sounded like there was quite a bit said before the voicemail started capturing, but obv i didn't get it since the voicemail didn't capture it).

This is fine and dandy - except that my Google Voice number has never been provided to the PPA, and is not publicly listed? Are we scanning the Internet for phone numbers?

Is it illegal to access european poker sites from USA using remote PC access program?
for example: There is a PC setup only for you, somewhere in Europe, that you can access using remote PC access program and play any poker site you want, even those forbidden by the US laws?

Hello.
I am filing chapter 7 bankruptcy in kansas. I have played poker online a lot and lost a net roughly $2000 in the last two years. At one point I won $5,000 which I put most of back in my checking account. My debt and reason for filing bankruptcy is non-gambling related (over $100k). On a side note I have not reported any poker winnings on any taxes. Will this be a problem?
*Should I be listing any poker winnings/deposits over the last 2 years, in my bankruptcy?
*Should I be listing the money lost playing poker under "Losses" in the Statement of Financial Affiars or anywhere else?
*Will I get in trouble if I dont mention some of these items in my bankruptcy?
*Will I get in trouble for playing poker online at all in Kansas?

I have played for recreation and entertainment on somewhat legitimate sites PS and FT..
both use third parties in order to pay you by check or bank eft, so all of these small charges to my checking account are to oddly named entities. Will the trustee and judge look at my bank statements and question each one or trace it?
My hunch is to just be honest and list it alll or play dumb if they mention it after not listing, but not if poker is illegal or will play agianst my case that might be very bad. Please let me know if you can answer any of these questions for it would be invaluable. I had an attorney but he did not know about this or a few other issues so I am filing pro-se.
Thanks

I play on PokerStars (if that matters) and I'd like to change the size of the Tournament table window. It can't be done while the PPA Calculator is running and that's okay but when I change the size of the window before the game starts, the calculator changes it back to its original size when it attaches to the window. How can I stop that from happening?

I've recently had an issue with my bank closing down my checking account due to charges related to online poker. Can you synopsize the law in Iowa as it relates to bank charges?

They did send a letter advising that they would close my account if the charges persisted. I inadvertently used the wrong debit card thereafter- I then contacted the site & they reversed the charge for me, however, days later I received a letter informing me that they closed it.

Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ok so the PPA and the state groups can't (or shouldn't) support any candidate over another. But as individuals it is our responsibility to 'lay our cards on the table' if I may be so bold. In Colorado we have a real turkey (in my opinion) running for the U.S. Senate. His name is Ken Buck. He is anti Poker and anti personal freedoms, big time. With the primaries coming up it is important to get the word out. If you are a Republican and a poker player, stay away from this guy. Once again that's one man's opinion.
