As you know last week the PPA launched a campaign to educate players about Commerce Casino’s opposition to proposed federal legislation (H.R. 2267) to license Internet poker throughout the country.
How has Commerce Casino responded?
Commerce Casino responded to player outrage with a press release restating their opposition to the federal bill and their continued support for California only legislation that would cut California poker players off from the rest of the Internet poker world. While the PPA understands that companies like Commerce have a right to oppose legislation for their own business interests, Commerce has not provided a clear reason why any poker player should support their position. The federal legislation supported by the PPA — which Commerce Casino opposes — is consumer driven and would provide a regulated, yet competitive, marketplace where companies like Commerce Casino could apply for licenses and offer services to online players. It would also preserve what online players enjoy today while strengthening the market by adding consumer protections and allowing U.S. companies to compete for players. Oddly, Commerce Casino still opposes this bill. Click here to read the PPA comments on the Commerce Casino Press Release.
